Resumo
This research investigates the trajectory of American-Jewish intellectual, activist, editor, and writer Melanie Kaye/Kantrowitz (1945-2018) and her performance and production between 1945 and 1989. The objective was to analyze how Kaye/Kantrowitz mobilized her Jewish identity/Jewishness in her theoretical-political practice. An overview of her activities, circulation and ideas was constructed based on documentation from her personal archive, her texts and publications relating to the period in question, especially the book The Issue is Power: Essays on Women, Jews, Violence and Resistance (1992) and her collaboration in the lesbian magazine Sinister Wisdom. It was possible to trace her trajectory within the American Second Feminist Wave and, thus, the emergence of Jewish Feminism, especially the field of Jewish Lesbian Feminism, and Kaye/Kantrowitz’s participation in it. In this sense, this monograph allowed us to understand how she came to assume, investigate, and mobilize her Jewishness together with her feminist and lesbian practices throughout, mainly, the 1970s and 1980s in the United States.
