Resumo
The job market has been growing ever more dynamic, as professionals have been working on increasingly shorter periods at their companies, comparing to previous years. Thus, companies and professionals have been pushed to learn how to deal with this new scenario. When professionals leave their companies precociously, there is a higher financial cost for their employers, as it happens after significant investments in their recruitment, selection and training, but before the due return of this very investment in terms of their performance for the organization. The onboarding process, or organizational socialization, helps newcomers to adapt to their new positions through the learning of the necessary knowledge, skills and behavior in order to succeed at the new organization. The onboarding process directly affects the newly hired professional performance, satisfaction in the new job, organizational commitment, recommendation of new employees, intention to remain at the job, turnover and absenteeism. Organizational socialization, when ineffective, is one of the main reasons by which a newcomer resigns, or negative impact on his/her productivity. This is an investigative study that aims to highlight the perceptions of professionals that were hired less than a year ago in Brazilian companies, and how efficient the onboarding process has been for them, as well as the most important issues. Using the Newcomer Socialization Questionnaire (NSQ), a sample of 191 executives that were hired less than a year ago has been analyzed, and the results suggest that the factors that actually influence the newcomer onboarding process are the ones that lie within the scope of the organization, team and task in the socialization strategy that will be used by the company concerning the professionals, once relevant differences in the onboarding perception have not been identified in relation to the age, seniority, company size and period of working time of each professional at their companies.
