Resumo
This dissertation proposes reflections, considering the main aspects of the study area of "Social Museology", from the dynamics and possibilities of coexistence and performance between useums and their closest public, based on the case study of the program Vizinhos do MAR – Museu de Arte do Rio. The location in the Port Region of Rio de Janeiro and the period this research was developed, along Porto Maravilha 's urbanistic interventions, have allowed me to access issues such as the historical and current violence suffered by black populations and favela residents, as well as the ways of resistance in the contemporary context of Rio de Janeiro. The main methodology that I have used was oral history. Listening to three favela residents who have been affected by Porto Maravilha on how they have experienced the arrival and establishment of the MAR in their territory, and have built actions with (and in despite of) the museum, were the sources for this research about the challenges and possibilities of building a socially responsible museology in the 21st century.
