Resumo

This exploratory study had as the main purpose to determine the main evolutionary trends of Expert Systems technology. In order to determine these evolutionary trends, the recent past and the current situation of this technology were examined within the business environment. Insofar as this technology is not isolated, but it is linked to the information systems technology, an examination was attempted of some of the broad trends of the latter, with an emphasis on the interrelationship between the two.
