Resumo

Objective – This study aims to analize the perceptions of trans individuals regarding the personal, professional, and social changes brought about by the creation of quotas in public service exams and to evaluate how these changes influence the inclusion of this population. Methodology – To achieve this objective, a qualitative approach was used, employing semistructured interviews conducted with three groups: trans individuals employed in public positions, public sector managers, and an academic expert on the subject. Data were analyzed within each group and through triangulation, providing a broad and integrated view of the impact of quotas in public service exams for trans individuals. Findings – The study collected responses from eight trans public servants, two public sector managers, and one academic expert. The main findings suggest that quotas in public service exams for trans individuals have the potential to combat prejudice and enable the inclusion of trans individuals in the formal labor market, especially within the public sector, where quotas promote not only inclusion but also stability and opportunities for career advancement. However, the study also identified barriers, such as prejudice and the lack of organizational policies for the inclusion, support, and retention of trans individuals in the workforce as a whole. Limitations – The primary limitations of the study were the low number of participants and the difficulty in contacting trans individuals employed in public positions. Practical implications – The study's findings may contribute to the formulation of inclusive policies or actions and to the development of support and diversity training programs for public and private organizations, with the goal of creating a more welcoming and inclusive work environment. Social implications – By interviewing trans individuals, this study highlights the need for affirmative policies and identifies the key challenges and essential advances required to improve the inclusion of the trans population not only in the labor market but also in society as a whole. Originality – The study addresses a topic that has been minimally explored in academia in Brazil: the labor market for trans individuals.
