O relacionamento com fornecedores durante a pandemia de COVID-19

Resumo

The pandemic event experienced in 2020 challenged the supply chain management of companies worldwide. Purchasing professionals had to face substantial challenges to avoid scarcity and inflationary escalation. Faced with a moment of remarkable complexity, the question arises about a crucial social element related to the national market: how are food companies operating in Brazil relating to their supply base during the COVID-19 pandemic? This study aimed to understand and describe how these companies are managing their supply bases during this time of crisis, as well as to identify what lessons to be learned from such experiences. To answer the question and meet the objective of this work, nine existing supply base management practices were identified in the existing literature, seeking to identify how they were being applied and whether they were effective in minimizing the impacts faced. During the fieldwork, seven Purchasing professionals from food manufacturing companies with operations in the national territory and two Purchasing professionals from industrial companies in the chemical and technology sector were interviewed, which served as benchmarking companies in the comparison between sectors. The results showed that, although there is the adoption of the proposed practices, the organizations interviewed still suffer from challenges related to the informality of operations and planning, concentration of information in a tacit way and a strong dependence on people who work in the organization. It was also observed that the adoption of supply base rationalization and a mature relationship between the parties were important measures to contain risks observed during the crisis.
