Resumo

his article critically evaluates key exhibitions in New York spanning from 2002 to 2023, focusing on their representation of Brazilian culture. It examines notable shows such as "Brazil: Body and Soul" and "Tarsila do Amaral: Inventing Modern Art in Brazil" held at the Guggenheim and MoMA, respectively. These exhibitions are analyzed for their portrayal of Brazilian cultural identity. Additionally, the article discusses "Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca: Five Times Brazil"at the New Museum and “The Yanomami Struggle” at The Shed, highlighting their innovative approaches in showcasing Brazilian art and addressing contemporary issues. The research identifies significant challenges in exhibiting Brazilian art, including historical oversimplifications in the presentation of Latin American art, inadequate consideration of Brazil's political context by international institutions, and a lack of dedicated academic literature on Brazilian art and culture. Furthermore, the article underscores the complexity of Brazil's geography, which reflects diverse regional specificities and cultural nuances. Ultimately, this paper aims to contribute to academic research involving the understanding of Brazilian art on the international stage.
