Identifying the mechanisms to retain SMEs in digital platformsa trust enabler approach

Resumo

Digital platforms have become one of the most important business models in recent years. Many different types of firms are adopting the business for multiple reasons. However, few studies have focused on how platform owners can actively create value and retain internal actors. It became a more intense problem when in the last years, the proliferation of platforms has increased the competition for hiring actors to maintain the sustainability of their businesses. In this matter, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that are relevant to platforms have become concerned when considering which aspects are interesting for them to be satisfied in these relationships. Though the lens the Stakeholders and Trust theories, this research details how digital platforms are building trust and retaining their internal actors as part of the platform ecosystem. This study conducts case study with 8 SMEs entrepreneurs that are active actors in digital platforms. As result, the research enhanced the literature on relationships between agents in digital platforms, using ecosystems theory and detailing digital platforms orchestration interactions. It also detailed in 3 major categories mechanisms that enable actors trust towards the digital platforms.
