Ethos guerreiro policial militar

Resumo

Purpose - This study aims to analyze the prevalence of the warrior ethos among military police officers in Rio de Janeiro. The military police culture is analyzed, and the perception of the military police in the exercise of their function in the face of the concept of moderate use of
 force. Methodology – We carried out bibliographic and documentary research and a survey with 1164 military police officers. Findings - The research concluded that the warrior ethos is a hegemonic perspective prevalent
 among military police officers in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In particular, the police officers' statements indicate the prevalence of a culture of fighting the enemy, which feeds the ideal of the warrior ethos. On the other hand, there were elements to affirm the significant existence of
 subjects aligned with the perspective of citizen public security. Research Limitations - The practical limit of the method is the impossibility of knowing whether the police officers who responded are representative of the general view of the Military Police of the state of Rio de Janeiro, given that only a percentage answered the question.
 Another limitation is that, despite this being a relevant thought in the Corporation, nothing can be said about how it was constituted, in particular if the PMERJ creates this ethos or if it selects people with this type of thought.
 Practical contributions – Understanding the ideological foundations that support the military police culture helps to understand the prevalence of a culture of fighting the enemy, opening space for the implementation of specific public policies, such as the creation of the professional
 profile suggested in this dissertation, which can contribute to mitigate the ideology of combat prevalent in the Institution. Social contributions - Explaining institutional cultural aspects and demystifying discourses present in common sense is a way of contributing to the development of a public security perspective that is more aligned with Human Rights and the democratic State.
 Originality – This is an unpublished research, since we did not find research publications that analyze the prevalence of the warrior ethos on the military police officer perception of his own activity, in any state of the national territory.
