Resumo

This dissertation analyzes how social movements dispute narratives and instrumentalize the issue of hunger in a context of affective political polarization in Brazil. Through a case study of the MTST’s Solidarity Kitchens and the Federal Government’s Solidarity Kitchen Program, and based on Critical Discourse Analysis, the research investigates how different actors compete over frames in an attempt to shape the Public Agenda. The findings indicate a shift in the focus of the debate from the existence of hunger in Brazil to the legitimacy and identity of the actors involved. Actors mobilize frames and emotions that reinforce the polarized context, while also revealing transformations in the conception of social movements and their relationship with the State.
