Resumo

This article analysis the main factors that impact residents perception on international megaevents, in order to identify possible actions governments could promote to buster popular support and minimize the resistance against this type of event. Based on theoretical and empirical literature, it also evaluates the Brazilian experience in its preparation to the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, and tries to offer some lessons to future megaevents that may take place in the country, including the 2020 Word Expo edition.This article analysis the main factors that impact residents perception on international megaevents, in order to identify possible actions governments could promote to buster popular support and minimize the resistance against this type of event.
