Universidade empresaum estudo de caso sobre a transformação de uma instituição de ensino

Resumo

This study is in the field of organizational studies, since it describes transformations in the Brazilian private higher education institution Sociedade de Ensino Superior Uninação (SESU) – fictitious name – after its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2008. In Brazil, private institutions of higher education hold the majority of the enrolled students and have changed their organizational formats, in response to legal changes and to the increase in the number of high school graduate students. The current essay presents the results of a unique case study that describes the main transformed aspects due to the IPO process, its impacts on the educational model and how people relationship has changed. The study conclusion is that the analyzed organization sought to create a model capable of delivering education with high academic quality, although it is not yet clear the space occupied by the research. Aiming to build this model, the private organization have hardly used technology and established intensive processes of administrative and teacher controls. National and international literature, are both extremely critic about the recent educational sector changes, the impact of private mass education institutions in educational systems and its results, so as the consequences of its organizational changes. However, there are few empirical data to depict in detail how these organizations have changed. This work contributes to the critical literature, enriching the discussion, by adding with the private educational organization point of view, that missing data.
