Resumo

Neglected Diseases (ND) represent a public health problem in Brazil. To reduce the burden of these diseases, the Pernambuco State Health Department created in 2011 the SANAR program (Program to Combat Neglected Diseases). The main objective of the research is to evaluate the impact of the SANAR program in reducing the prevalence rate of tuberculosis in the elderly population of Pernambuco. This is an observational, quantitative, retrospective, cross-sectional study based on secondary data, based on the notification form of the Information System for Diseases and Notification (Sinan) of neglected diseases in the State of Pernambuco, from 2003 to 2018 To verify if the implementation of the SANAR program is related to the reduction of the prevalence rate of the diseases, a model of differences in differences (diff-in-diff) was estimated. The main results of the research indicate that the Sanar program was responsible for a reduction of approximately 24,23 cases de TB by 100.000 habitants, among the elderly population. Monitoring the incidence rate of DN, as well as the evaluation of actions and programs that seek to reduce them, must have priorities in the agenda of public policies that aim to provide improvements for the living conditions of the population of greater social and economic vulnerability in the country. state of Pernambuco, especially the elderly.
