Revelando a escola pelo Idebuma análise qualitativa com entrevista única

Resumo

The construction of quantitative quality indicators is a technical and political choice, as in the case of the Basic Education Development Indicator (Ideb). However, the concept of quality in education has an open texture, and stabilizing what will constitute the operational concept for quantifying quality implies excluding what is not quantifiable, but which can certainly be considered central or have impacts on pedagogical processes. Creativity, engagement, building self-esteem, social skills, the formation of subjectivities and value orientations – including participation in public debates and the establishment of social bonds between students and teachers of different generations – are objectives to be pursued by education, but they are not quantifiable, especially through large-scale tests. The Ideb measures quality and has become an important indicator for mapping performance failures in education networks, allowing interventions in the form of incentives, training, and management methods. This text aimed to shift the use of the Ideb from the network scale to the school scale, through the analysis of a single interview. Thus, it uses the single interview, a modality of comprehensive interviewing, to contextualize the meanings of the Ideb in its everyday uses. Local management and pedagogical processes, as well as the challenges imposed by the dynamics of the school, were highlighted. Similarly, it was possible to emphasize the potential of the interview analyzed in depth for understanding school processes. The research method used was the single interview, combined with content analysis of the literature on the subject.
