Resumo

At the beginning of the 20th century, Light, as the companies of a Canadian group was known, installed in Rio de Janeiro offering infrastructure services - production and distribution of electricity, gas, telephony and transport by tramways and buses. By the end of the 1920s, already stabilized, Light created a great communication structure called the Publicity Department with the goal of guiding the process of building the company's image and the relationship with external and internal audiences - the population, the press, and its employees. In 1928, the department launched Revista Light, a house-organ produced within modern communication models of the time, published until April 1940, following the great transformations of the country and society that took place during the period. The objective of this dissertation is to present the research that brings to light the complete collection of Revista Light, a rich material that portrays aspects of communication, society, the world of work, the relationship between corporations with established powers and the media, as well as values of the capitalism installed in Brazil at that time, along with the growth of urbanization. The publication remains almost unknown and not well explored by different fields of knowledge. Thus, Revista Light is both the object and source of this work.
