Os Planos de saúde na recente crise econômica brasileira

Resumo

The main objective of this study is to show the effects of the recent Brazilian economic crisis on the Health Plans. The variables analyzed are: population coverage, type of contract, profile of the insured as to gender, concentration of the sector and origin of capital, and adjustment policy practiced. For this, firstly a brief historical retrospective of the origin of private health in the country is made, especially of the one related to the process of industrialization associated with the multinationals. Next, the article focuses on the evolution of health plans, manly in the early 2000s, considering the economy performance as a background, particularly the labor market. It is concluded that, the same way as the coverage of the plans increased with the expansion in formal labor market in the Lula governments and in the first Dilma term, massive unemployment, especially in the formal labor market, caused by the recession made a huge workers contigent loss their connection with the Health Plans. The insurance companies, in reaction to the fall in the number of insureds, sought to change the systematics of their readjustments. The study also points to the deepening of the concentration and presence of foreign capital in the sector in the recent period.
