O regime divinobatistas brasileiros entre a autonomia e a centralização (1881-1935)

Resumo

The present dissertation analyzes the performance of the baptist denomination in Brazil, especially through its principal directive institution, Convenção Batista Brasileira (CBB), between 1881 and 1935. CBB was the organization created by baptists to assemble local baptist churches and institutions under a technical and bureaucratic apparatus of national scope, with a unique missionary, doctrinal and programmatic plan. The building and success of such an agency depended on the balance of two fundamental, though opposing, baptist principles: the individual autonomy and of the churches and their centralization in cooperative institutions. The use of such principles is highlighted in the paper according to the context in which the denomination was inserted, so that the balance between them was the fundamental challenge for the denomination, and more specifically for CBB, in the years examined by this research.
