Resumo

Adherence: This teaching case falls within the areas of Public Administration, Sustainability and Social Responsibility with the objective of analyzing the governance process in the environmental conflict resulting from mining activities that caused the environmental disaster. Impact: It is important to teach the case to awaken and raise awareness among decision-makers for greater accountability of companies for environmental and social damages, review public policies related to mining and promote legislation that better protects vulnerable communities by encouraging their participation. Applicability: The teaching case can be applied in the disciplines of Public Administration Theories, Governance and Transparency, Partnerships between the State and Third Sector Organizations, in undergraduate and graduate courses. Innovation: The case is innovative in the sense that it looks at the role of the State in Social Responsibility, how the relationship between the State and the company configures Responsibility. Complexity: The case becomes complex because it addresses diverse themes and can be studied from various perspectives.
