Resumo

It is reiterated in this article that banking the unbanked is just one step in the process of financial citizenship. By using a quasi-experimental approach and using an approach based on counterfactuals, evidence is found that the Continued Provision Benefit is capable of promoting access to formal financial services, that is, it contributes to the banking of its beneficiaries. On the other hand, the program is not able to positively impact the intensity of use, nor is it successful in extending better conditions of access and use to its beneficiaries. Thus, it is proved here, the need to pay attention to the conditions that govern the relationship of Brazilian families with the formal financial system so that financial inclusion does not materialize only as the granting and occurrence of credit, or that it is confused with well-being, within a context characterized by the weakening or suspension of social protection structures
