Mumbuca: a primeira moeda social digital do Brasil

Resumo

The context of this case is the creation of the community bank and its social currency, Mumbuca, in the municipality of Maricá-RJ, Brazil. The Mumbuca was the first entirely digital social currency created in the country. The case addresses issues related to project governance, business models, replicability and know-how transfer, information technology, social innovation and value creation. These and other issues are discussed in the light of concepts such as solidary economy, social impact, financial inclusion and local development. The case also aims to discuss the introduction of technological innovations such as mobile payments and mobile money.
