Memórias da repressão política na Primeira Repúblicarelatos jornalísticos, memorialísticos e literários da repressão florianista durante a Revolta da Armada (1893-1894)

Resumo

This dissertation aims to analyze a group of memoirs and testimonial written works that surfaced following the repression undertaken by the Floriano Peixoto government in response to the Armada Revolt of 1893. Produced under distinct contexts and with varied purposes, these works allow one to access in which ways the Floriano repression was documented by its political prisoners, by the press and by literary writers, most notably Coelho Netto and Lima Barreto. As eye witnesses of such acts of repression, both of these renowned writers incorporated their recollections to fictional and chronicle writings. We shall, therefore, try to demonstrate the way in which these varied groups of memories are interrelated, both thematically-wise and through the sociability links held by the wide array of authors.
