Resumo

The paper proposes that the State crisis is the result of the combination between two distinct phenomena: the first is the understanding of the State crisis according to the regulatory school and the "regulatory Fordian way": the second is the end of the economic model adopted during the Estado Novo period in Brazil. Some points that can explain the relationship between State and society in Brazil are studied. It is also presented one of the possible diagnosis of the so-called Western State crisis. Ideas introduced by Boyer, Harvey and Aglieta are tied up to those of Souza e Silva to portrait the regulatory Fordian production way. At last, the paper shows limitations issues and recommendations for the structuring of a new role for the modern Western State.
