Resumo
In the last decades, cesarean delivery has become the main procedure in Brazil, particularly in private health system maternities and hospitals. Several initiatives, both public and private, have been adopted in order to reduce the number of unnecessary cesareans, one of which is the Parto Adequado Project. Our goal in this article is to present this project, along with its scope, proposals and results of the first phase of implementation. The methodology was based on bibliographic research available on the internet; documentary analysis of online material, especially the document ‘Cartilha Nova Organização do Cuidado ao Parto e Nascimento para Melhores Resultados de Saúde: Projeto Parto Adequado - Fase 1’ (New Organization of Childbirth Care for Better Health Results: Parto Adequado project - Phase 1); data and information from the Agência Nacional de Saúde Suplementar (ANS – National Supplementary Health Agency) website. The results of the first phase indicate that there was an increase in the number of vaginal deliveries in most of the participating hospitals, along with a decrease in hospitalizations in neonatal ICUs. In order for the project to be better reflected, evaluated and broaden, more objective data are needed about the delivery assistance in the hospitals involved, as well as evaluation made by the women that participated in project - which should occur after the evaluation of results obtained in the first phase of Parto Adequado.
