A rodovia e os caiçarasa construção da Rio-Santos e suas consequências para as comunidades locais em Ubatuba (SP)

Resumo

This research aims to understand the consequences of Rio-Santos construction for the caiçaras communities of the city of Ubatuba (SP). Through interviews, are described some elements of the caiçara way of life, which was experienced in the old days more naturally and with less oppression if it is compared to the time after the road. It is considered that the Rio-Santos is part of a broader conservative modernization project implemented by the military regime. Moreover, are addressed the conflicts of the caiçaras communities with real estate speculation, cultural influence of western urban society and environmental legislation. Finally, is presented an overview of the caiçara resistance in Ubatuba from the last decades of the twentieth century to the present day, addressing the advances in the legislation to protect traditional communities.
