Resumo

This study is situated within the field of organizational culture, which is understood as a strategic factor for organizational success, particularly for multinational startups that face the challenge of reconciling their organizational culture with the local culture of their subsidiaries. The objective is to analyze the extent to which the organizational culture of a multinational startup may be influenced by local culture and how this phenomenon can be managed while preserving its core elements. The theoretical foundation combines organizational culture approaches with the cultural dimensions framework of the GLOBE Project. The research adopts a case study methodology, guided by two hypotheses, and collects data through surveys and interviews conducted within a Chinese multinational technology startup, with a focus on its Brazilian subsidiary. The findings indicate that organizational culture is not simply replicated across contexts but rather reinterpreted through the interaction between corporate practices and local cultural references. This process generates tensions in dimensions such as power distance, future orientation, and assertiveness. These differences reflect national cultural traits and highlight the mediating role of local culture in the internalization of organizational values. As a contribution, in addition to advancing the theoretical debate, the findings generated practical implications that were validated with organizational stakeholders, emphasizing the need to adapt leadership styles, communication practices, and decision-making mechanisms. Furthermore, the study proposes a structured managerial framework for managing organizational culture in multinational subsidiaries, with potential applicability to other organizational contexts.
