A incidência do controle coercitivo entre casais heterossexuais e a violência conjugal

Resumo

Domestic violence has been revealed as a complex and challenging phenomenon. This study analyzes the incidence of coercive control among Brazilian heterosexual couples and the violence that occurred within their intimate relationships. The research addresses the supposed gender symmetry and asymmetry in cases of domestic violence; the distinctions between the feminist and the sociologists of the family perspectives; instruments for measuring violence; and a new conception of types of domestic violence, brought by the American sociologist Michael P. Johnson, whose theoretical framework guides this study. The literature review guides the empirical study carried out on coercive control in the Brazilian context in order to answer the research questions and test the proposed hypotheses. Additionally, the study aims at contributing to the future propositions of public policies directed to prevent domestic violence.
