Resumo
By 2050, the global population over 60 will increase from 841 million to 2 billion. This raises the question: are cities prepared to meet the biopsychosocial needs of aging? This study, based on the concepts of Dystopia and Utopia and the testimonies of 15 older adults from different regions of São José dos Campos, Brazil, analyzes their perceptions of the current city and their vision of an ideal place to age. The findings show that challenges are already significant and will intensify, demanding integrated public policies that ensure the rights of older people. In this context, projecting utopias means believing that a better world is not only imaginable, but also achievable.
