Resumo

Through a survey of the federal government’s available funds for the specific purpose of reducing regional inequalities or for creating dynamism in pre-determinate areas of the domestic territory, the authors search to verify the dimension of the actual 'regional policy' federal efforts in 1995/1997 period. These funds, that include budgetary expenditure (maintenance of both special agencies of regional development and programs), credit (guided sums of funds to the specific regions) and localized tax waivers and fiscal exemptions, increased from R$ 6,6 billion in 1995 to R$ 9,4 billion in 1997, reached a joint amount of R$ 23,3 billion in the period. However, the authors conclude that the share of financial resources which drove the stimulation of the private sector (largest slice) does not show the appropriate controls of execution, while that one of budgetary nature shows a decline (above all of the action instruments).
