Resumo
The transition to scale of internal corporate ventures (ICVs) in established companies remains one of the most significant gaps in the corporate venturing literature. This thesis addresses the problem across three complementary movements. The first article systematically maps the state of knowledge on ICVs, identifying the organizational and relational conditions that shape their trajectories and signaling the scarcity of studies on the transition phase. The second article deepens this agenda through a comparative analysis of four ICV cases in established companies, revealing distinct patterns between initiatives that scale and those that do not: successful ICVs develop active forms of relationship management with the parent company, converting recurring tensions into stable resource access arrangements. The third article translates these findings into managerial guidance, proposing a roadmap to support leaders in deliberately navigating the transition from incubation to scale, grounded in four scale modes shaped by different combinations of autonomy, integration, and leverage of internal and external resources. Taken together, the three articles contribute to the literature by positioning the transition to scale as a resource orchestration problem, dependent on the parent company's organizational arrangements and on the capacity of ICV leaders to actively manage dependence, negotiate access, and articulate internal and external resources throughout the transition process.
