Resumo

The article analyses the influences of the players that interact with the Federal Institute of Professional and Technological Education of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) in the construction of a new field of action for these institutions which are experiencing an important transition aimed at inserting governmental policies on the environment and on regional development in its scope of action. The study suggests new possibilities to explore the Institutional Theory in a space of investigation that has had little attention in which the IFRJ is challenged into organizing itself in line with governmental policies that will lead them to strengthen its ties with society. To this end, the research benefited from empirical and document sources, involving organizations that are represented in the local and regional spheres. The results of the research suggest alternatives that would make the IFRJ effective player in Brazilian public policies, and contribute towards a professional and technological education in the country that, in catering to local potentials, can become an agent of development.
