The idea of university in the reform of higher education

Resumo

This article exposes the historic and socio-cultural situation of the Reform of Higher Education (Reforma Universitária), promoted in 1968. It identifies the concept of the institution of university orienting the action of its Working Group (Grupo de Trabalho - G.T.) and describes analyses and criticisms offered by some authors about the suggested approaches. Taking into account and respecting the high scientific, academic and technical level of the G. T. members, this presentation did not attempt to qualify the form proposed, but wishes on1y to be seen as a contribution to the critical study of the Reform of Higher Education of "68 (Act n. 5.540, of November 11, 1968).
