Tecnologia, preservação e conservação de acervos documentaisum estudo de caso aplicado à Biblioteca da Escola Superior de Guerra

Resumo

The present work provides suggestions for public policies and strategies intended to preserve and conserve national documents and bibliographic collections. The General Cordeiro de Farias Library, at Escola Superior de Guerra (ESG), was chosen as the object of this study. This institution has a vast collection of materials in the fields of Economics, History, Geopolitics, International Relations and Defense, and completes 70 years in 2019. The school's collection comprises 46,082 documents, including end-of-course papers, conferences as well as individual and group travel reports. These accounts portray the perspective and relationships established among Brazilian civil and military elites, according to the native discourse, that was to achieve a development that suited national interests and managed to place Brazil side by side with the great powers of the globe, evidencing the method adopted by the School. The research aims to technically diagnose the conditions of preservation and conservation of this collection, characterizing itself as a descriptive and exploratory investigation, with a quantitative and qualitative approach used to carry out the analysis.
