Resumo

This study examines Brazil's role within the global supply chain for critical minerals essential to the energy transition, with a focus on its reserves, production capacity, international trade, and investment landscape. Driven by the imperative to mitigate climate change, the global energy transition requires a systemic overhaul of power generation, shifting from fossil fuels to renewable sources and low-carbon technologies. The manufacturing supply chain for wind and solar power generation components, as well as for electrified vehicles, is highly intensive in critical minerals, including copper, lithium, nickel, manganese, graphite, and rare earth elements. While Brazil is endowed with significant reserves of several of these minerals, it encounters substantial challenges in its production and trade sectors. This analysis underscores the criticality of strategic investments to enable the nation to fully leverage its mineral potential and establish itself as a pivotal global actor in the energy transition.
