Programa Fragatas Classe Tamandaré e os benefícios econômicos gerados no Município de Itajaí-SC

Resumo

The Tamandaré Class Frigates Program (PFCT) of the Brazilian Navy aims to modernize the Brazilian fleet through the construction of four advanced frigates in the country, with investments of approximately R$ 13 billion. In addition to strengthening Naval Defense, the program seeks to revitalize the Brazilian shipbuilding industry and generate significant economic benefits, particularly in the municipality of Itajaí-SC, where the project is being developed. The research on the PFCT analyzes both its implementation and local economic impacts, using municipal public finance variables to measure the effects on Itajaí-SC's economic activity. Through an econometric approach, it employs a state-space model to evaluate the causal relationship between the program's initiation and the municipality's economic activity, based on the study by Harvey and Durbin (1986). The qualitative analysis details the program's development, while the quantitative analysis investigates how it influenced local economic activity, providing insights for studies in the fields of Defense and Economics.
