Principais resultados da pesquisa domiciliar sobre a previdência rural na região Sul do Brasil (Projeto Avaliação Socioeconômica da Previdência Social Rural)

This paper presents some of the information from the domestic inquiry carried out in 1998, between August and September. The investigation covered six hundred homes in the Southern and Northeasthern regions of Brazil. It’s main objective was to evaluate the socioeconomic and regional impacts of the Rural Social Security. This system of social security promotes a very important income redistribution among the poor of the rural sector, historically excluded from the social rights. The main results indicate in 1998 a rise of 16% of familiar income in the South and Northeast, in comparison with families without access to the social system. The access to the system allows to maintain 85% of the families investigated in the South and 62% in the Northeast above the line of poverty based on half a minimum salary per-capita (or US$ 60). In the homes without access to the social security in the South, the familiar income above the poor line is 60%. In the Northeast, the familiar income above the poor line is only 26,5% of the homes without access to the social security. This situation allows a positive evaluation of the system of retirements and alimonies of the rural population. This system focuses on the elderly (men above 60 and women above 55) and allows a restructuring of the rural domestic economy.
