Resumo

This paper presents a homogeneous methodology for calculating the GDP for the Brazilian states. This methodology follows the IBGE’s national accounts procedures applied to data at the state level in order to obtain results that are comparable both cross-sectionaly and with those observed at national level. Due to the methodological changes recently made by IBGE in the national accounts methodology, two series are presented: on refering to the old system of national accounts corresponding to the 1985/95 period; the other corresponding to the 1990/96 period and refering to the new system of national accounts, which follows the recommendations of the United National System of National Accounts — 1993 (SNA-93). The results are presented are in Reais (R$) and refer to the total GDP and the each component activity of the main classification adopted by IBGE, as follows: a) the current price values for the 1985/95 period (old system) are presented at factor costs; for the 1990/96 period (new system), current values are presented at factor costs and at basic prices (factors cost plus taxes minus subsides on activities); b) the constant prices information are presented at factor cost for the 1985/95 series as an index (base 1985=100). For the 1990/96 series, the information is presented in constant price values of 1996 for values calculated at both, factor costs and basic prices. A complete set of tables is available in an inserted disk and some of them summarising the main results are printed.
