Perception of public opinion and stratified social groups as to environmental challenges

Resumo

This article intends to outline a general picture of the perception the Brazilian population has of the environmental problem, demonstrated in surveys of public opinion, therein not included the particular opinion of specialists or of persons interested in studies of environmental questions. The article is based on researches carried on between March, 1989 and February, 1991, in their majority relying on data from national samples, from which the conclusions are drawn. There are, also, some more localized studies, using specific samples, serving to illustrated particular points or to suggest new paths to be followed in future studies.
