Resumo

The paper aims to contribute with the literature on evaluation of the public policy investigating the impacts of the works of the Project of Integration of the São Francisco River basin with the Watersheds of the Brazilian Northeast (PISF) in its East Axis, in relation to the evolution of formal employment in municipalities directly affected by the construction of physical works. For this analysis, the differences in differences and the propensity score matching methods were used together with data collected from the Annual Social Information Report (Rais), in order to evaluate the evolution in the number of jobs and the income for the municipalities, according to the five major sectors of the economy, in the period 1999-2017. The results were positive in the formal employment of the services sector, and the income was positive in the industrial and construction sectors. Contrary to expectations, however, there was a drop in the latter’s formal employment.
