O setor público brasileiro - 1890/1945

Resumo

Analyzing the evolution of the main revenues and expenditure government accounts, this paper describes the behavior of the public sector during the period 1890/1945. Not only because its importance in terms of the volume of resources that allocates, but also because data availability, the study focuses on the federal level of government.
 The document is divided in two chapters. The first analysis the evolution of revenue categories with more attention on tax revenue of the three levels of government, emphasizing the changes in the tax system that happen in the period. The second studies the evolution of the volume and structure of the federal current expenditures during the 1890/1945 period. The paper also includes two appendixes that describe the rise and evolution of federal autarkies and of the main public sector enterprises.
