Resumo
How does the Auxílio Brasil program affect voter choices, especially regarding the increase in votes for Bolsonaro? Is this effect modulated by the financial dependence of municipalities on the federal government? This dissertation assesses the impact of the coverage of Bolsa Família and Auxílio Brasil programs on the 2022 electoral results and whether the financial dependence of municipalities on the federal government results in a change in this effect. Using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) to analyze municipal-level electoral outcomes, a positive association was observed between Auxílio Brasil and an increase in votes for Bolsonaro, more evident in areas where the program expanded. Contrary to theoretical expectations, municipalities less dependent on the federal government demonstrated a greater impact of Auxílio Brasil on pro-Bolsonaro votes. The study reveals the significant influence of Auxílio Brasil on voting decisions in the Northeast region, particularly in municipalities with lesser financial dependence on the federal government.
