“O profeta vascaíno”a ascensão política de Eurico Miranda no Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama (1986-2001)

Resumo

This research aims to centrally investigate the political rise of Eurico Miranda in the Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama from the perspective of “Vasco da Gama’s managerial style”. To achieve this, it is first necessary to understand the social representations that make up the Vasco da Gama’s club identity, known as vascainismo. I referred to this phenomenon as the “narrative of resistance”, as it prescribes the idea that the club, supposedly since its foundation, is the club that fights “against everything and everyone”, especially during the period analyzed here, 1986-2001. Subsequently, I addressed the persona of the sports manager, considering the dyad Antônio Soares Calçada - Eurico Miranda. I acknowledge that, at certain moments, their leadership styles complement each other, but above all, they oppose each other. Finally, I examine Eurico Miranda’s first election in the Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama, which took place in 2001, supported by episodes that highlight the incorporation and, consequently, the reconfiguration of the Vasco da Gama resistance identity made by Eurico.
