Resumo
The misalignment between the competencies demanded by the labor market and those developed in higher education has accelerated the adoption of micro-credentials as a means of providing objective evidence of specific skills. This study investigated how employers in the finance sector evaluate micro-credentials within hiring processes, combining two quantitative methods: Best–Worst Scaling (BWS), used to identify and hierarchize relevant CV attributes, and Choice-Based Conjoint (CBC), employed to estimate how different attributes influence employer choices under real trade-offs. The research included 35 respondents in the BWS stage and 122 in the CBC experiment, all of whom were responsible for recruitment or selection activities in their organizations. The findings indicate that micro-credentials specifically aligned with the content of the position exert a positive and statistically significant effect on employer choices, functioning as complementary evidence of technical competence. However, their influence emerges in conjunction with other attributes—such as prior experience and field of study—rather than replacing signals already established in hiring processes. The study also observed that declared perceptions of the value of micro-credentials are broadly favorable, although their actual influence varies when evaluators must weigh multiple attributes simultaneously. These results contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of microcredentials in hiring, offering empirical evidence of how employers interpret and incorporate such credentials in practice. The study additionally identifies limitations and proposes avenues for future research, including comparative analyses across sectors, experiments using different micro-credential formats, and predictive scenario simulations.
