Resumo
This thesis is about the surveillance of Brazilian cinema during the 1964 dictatorship by the Serviço Nacional de Informações - SNI (1964-1990), the central body of the National Intelligence System. The source of the research is the documents produced and accumulated by the dictatorship's intelligence agencies, selected from the period 1967 to 1979. It deals with the work of the intelligence community, questioning the extent of this surveillance of cinema, considering the creation of the SNI within the emergence of a “new revolutionary order”. Specifically, it investigates the surveillance of the Instituto Nacional do Cinema (1966-1975) and Embrafilme (1969-1990); the actions of the Centro de Informações Exteriores - Ciex, (1966-1985) and the Divisão de Segurança e Informações of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on cinema abroad and the surveillance of the film Iracema - uma transa amazônica, treated here as a milestone in the potential of national cinema to provoke critical thinking around the dictatorship.
