Resumo

This dissertation aims to investigate the limits of the functional arrangement model in the organization of personal papers. It analyzes how the understanding of activities as function is tied to a specific model of the human subject inscribed within a hegemonic Western philosophical tradition, leading to the construction and reproduction of the neoliberal "neo-subject." Through a case study of the Mário Pedrosa Archive, held by the Manuscripts Division of the Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (Brazil), it demonstrates how this perspective can establish points of exclusion and create rifts between the creator's trajectory and the archival representation of his life and work. It concludes that the notion of "function" is insufficient to reflect the multiplicity of human activities that go beyond the spheres of productivity, utility, and performance. Drawing on decolonial approaches and authors such as Hobbs (2016) and Douglas (2018), it proposes a shift of focus from functionality and evidential value toward the notion of human experience as a record-generating activity, suggesting new possibilities for arrangement that consider multiple contexts, affective relationships, sociability, and creative processes not oriented toward utilitarian ends.
