Resumo
Commuting is characterized by the movement of people who work or study in one municipality and live in another. In the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro (MRRJ), between 1980 and 2010, there was a decrease in the flow of people leaving their municipalities to work in the state capital. This article aims to analyze this transformation based on the metropolization of space and on changes in the socio-occupational structure analyzed for the municipalities of the MRRJ between 2000 and 2010. To accomplish this, we used a social stratification model proposed by the Observatório das Metrópoles. The results indicate that municipalities located in the region known as Baixada Fluminense have been attracting large numbers of professionals.
