Management of agricultural research reflections on a national Embrapa research

Resumo
Based on the working model of a National Research Center of Embrapa – Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Brazilian Corporation for Agricultural Research), this paper describes some differences between the administrative patterns appropriate for bureaucratic organizations in general and for research organizations. Following, it describes structural and cultural characteristics of the organization under study, specially the design and control processes of the research and the social relations among the subsystems of its structure. Finally, suggestions are presented on the administrative and managerial behavior that should prevail in a research center.
