Labor memory and environmental memorythe tannery industries of Rio dos Sinos/RS

Resumo

The article presents a discussion on urban landscape, labor memory and environmentalmemory in the Rio dos Sinos Valley - RS, Brazil, through a collection of texts and images organized based onthe social trajectories of subjects who were or are still linked to the leather industry in the region. This materialcompiles the collection of ethnographic research developed since 2012, aiming to understand the social trajectories of these subjects, “narrators of the work”, in the context of the metropolitan region and its dynamics:population displacement, urban occupation, environmental conflicts, the perception of the transformations ofthe world of labor and the relationship between industrial work, landscape and urban waters. It is an anthropological research based on duration ethnography, presenting the trajectories of these subjects in the context ofthe tannery industries, as well as the relationship between labor memory and the urban landscape of the region,and the construction of an environmental memory.
