Internacionalização de instituições financeiras de língua espanhola e portuguesa

Resumo

The objective of this paper is to determine which variables impact the choice of a country to operate in the process of internationalization of Spanish and Portuguese speaking banks. Furthermore, the article seeks to compare the possible differences in these variables for public and private banks. The sample consists of 141 banks operating in 59 countries and, using a logit model, concludes that these banks choose countries with greater trade integration and language to their countries, and are closer to each other, and with more opportunity for growth. The internationalization would be mainly taken by larger banks and points out that there are differences in the magnitude of the impact of variables between public and private banks.
