Resumo
PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the impact of collaborative innovation between a large company (Neoenergia) and an SME (Electra Pré-Moldados) on the development of green products and the promotion of an organizational innovation culture. Specifically, it sought to analyze strategies and mechanisms of the partnership, identify challenges and opportunities in this collaboration, assess its effects on the SME's innovation culture, and explore economic and environmental benefits resulting from the Ecoposte project. METHODOLOGY: The research adopted a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive approach, employing a single case study methodology. Internal documents, email communications, public sources, and direct observations were analyzed, covering the period from 2009 to 2025. FINDINGS: The study demonstrated that the strategic partnership successfully resulted in the development of Ecoposte, an ecological product that reuses construction waste. The collaboration significantly transformed Electra's organizational culture, enhancing its propensity for innovation. Notable economic benefits were identified, such as reduced production costs, market expansion, and substantial environmental gains, reinforcing sustainable practices and the concept of eco-innovation. RESEARCH LIMITATIONS: The main limitation arises from using a single case study, restricting the generalization of the findings. The qualitative approach may also introduce interpretative biases in the presented results. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The findings provide valuable insights for managers of SMEs and large companies interested in adopting strategic partnerships for innovative and sustainable projects, highlighting fundamental aspects such as mutual trust, knowledge sharing, relationship gains, and economic sustainability. SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The work can contribute to strengthening more sustainable and innovative business practices, promoting economic development aligned with environmental preservation, and encouraging the use of construction waste as a raw material. ORIGINALITY: This work is original in deeply analyzing a practical and successful experience of collaborative innovation in the Brazilian context, especially by utilizing construction waste in innovative structural products. The study joins others related to the subject but stands out by specifically focusing on the interaction between large companies and Brazilian SMEs.
