Resumo
This study analyzes the impacts of rehabilitation treatment for people with disabilities in the Brazilian labor market, using microdata from the Brazilian National Health Survey, conducted in 2019. Quasi-experimental strategies were adopted to examine the effects in two dimensions of interest: employment and hourly wage earnings. The results reveal that rehabilitation, especially when carried out through health insurance or privately, has a significant and positive impact on the likelihood of employment, particularly among people with most severe disabilities. This type of treatment also results in labor income increases in both formal and informal markets. In contrast, treatment provided by the public health system, although it increases of employment, does not translate into wage improvements. The conclusions highlight the importance of policies to strengthen public rehabilitation services and interventions, improving the accessibility and continuity of treatment to promote more effective and equitable inclusion of people with disabilities in the labor market.
